As a child, my dad used to joke that one day I would have a “Dear Abby” column. You know, the column in the newspaper where people ask the author for advice. He said this because even at a young age, I was never shy about sharing my thoughts and opinions. It didn’t matter who you were or how controversial the topic was. If I had an opinion, I was going to share it. This personality trait followed me through my teen years, just ask my mom. As an adult, I now love and appreciate it.
While having lunch with my dad a few weeks ago, he reminded me of the family joke. He said, “I always knew you were meant to have a job that allowed you to share your opinion freely.” I guess that is why as a child he always told me that I was not cut from the cloth of corporate America. Initially I was offended but looking back on it now, I think he was right.
As we continued to talk, a thought came into my head. “Hey! Why not?” Why couldn’t I utilize my weekly business blog as a forum for Q&A? It would be a great opportunity to continue to connect with my readers on a personal level by addressing their real life challenges.
Starting in October, I am going to dedicate several weeks of my blogs to my new Q&A forum. To do this, I need your help. I need your questions, challenges and scenarios. Once I gather enough, I will start responding to the anonymous writers confronting a new question each week.
My challenge for you this week is to send me leadership questions you have had or are currently struggle with. Then, I can start sharing thoughts or ideas on ways you can start tackling a solution and we can all learn something from it.
