🐾 Dear Elliott, How do I know if my boss is toxic? 🐾

Dear Worried Employee,
Hi there, it’s your favorite Chief Morale Officer, Elliott, here to tackle a tough question today: How do you know if your boss is toxic? It’s something I hear often around the office water bowl. 🐕
The truth is, toxic bosses can have a real impact on your mental and emotional well-being—and it’s not always easy to spot the signs right away. But don’t worry, I’m here to help! 🐾 If you’re feeling unsure about your boss’s behavior, here are a few red flags to watch out for:
1. Constant Criticism Without Constructive Feedback Is your boss always pointing out what’s wrong, but never offering ways to improve? A toxic boss will tear you down instead of lifting you up.
2. Micromanaging Every Little Detail Does it feel like your boss is always hovering over you, never trusting you to get the job done? Micromanagement shows a lack of trust and can stifle creativity.
3. Lack of Empathy or Understanding Do they dismiss your concerns or personal challenges? If your boss never shows compassion or doesn’t acknowledge your needs, that’s a red flag.
4. Taking Credit for Your Work Does your boss regularly claim your ideas or accomplishments as their own? Toxic leaders often prioritize their own image over the success of the team.
5. Promoting Fear and Intimidation Do you feel like you’re walking on eggshells? If your boss uses fear to control or manipulate the team, it’s a major sign of toxic leadership.
What Can You Do? If you’re dealing with a toxic boss, it’s important to set boundaries and seek support. Whether it’s talking to HR or finding allies in the workplace, your well-being matters. You deserve to work in a place where you feel respected, valued, and trusted.
And remember, I’m always here to offer moral support (and maybe a wag of the tail) when you need it! 🐾
Stay pawsitive, friends!
